RAVING REVIEW: It is uncertain whether viewing the animated film THE BIG TRIP from 2019 would have enhanced my appreciation of this movie. The film was not particularly challenging to watch but rather average in terms of its genre in children's animation.

The animation appeared flawed due to stylistic inconsistencies. While this might not be immediately noticeable to younger viewers, it detracted from my overall enjoyment of the film. Animation styles are important to keep an audience's attention because they help establish a film's visual tone and aesthetic. A consistent and cohesive animation style can help immerse the viewer in the story's world and make the characters and events more believable.

The movie was entertaining enough; several moments even made me laugh audibly. Especially the clear parallels of “Doug Vulture” in one scene to a famous political figure. It is worth noting that upon looking into the original film, the sequel appears to follow a narrative strikingly similar to its predecessor, at least based on reviews and synopsis’ that I read related to the original film.

As a whole, the 90-minute runtime is the sweet spot for an animated film. Short enough to keep most attention spans any longer, and you run the risk of some giving up without watching the entire film. That isn’t to say every kid will want to sit through it, but it’s universally the magic spot.

If you’re a fan of the original film, I suspect you’ll also enjoy this. The return of some of the characters from the first film and a similar story seems like a nearly cookie-cutter stamp of the first. That isn’t to say that’s bad; sometimes, if it isn’t broken, why bother fixing it?

The addition of Pauly Shore voicing a character made the experience for me. As soon as I hear that iconic voice, it puts a smile on my face.
